I've been experimenting some with generating feeds out of things that don't come with feeds of their own, which is the first step along the way to creating a nice unified webapp for others to use. I think "Feedifier," or perhaps "Feedinator" is a good name for what I'm doing.
You may have noticed a spate of lame YouTube videos automagically coming down this pipe, which -- while not terribly interesting in and of itself -- is certainly a good sign that my magicks are working. I wrote a little scraper to take a YouTube username and parse thru its list of published videos, generating an RSS feed out of it. I then merged said RSS feed into the aggregator that controls content here at The Nyquil Network, and it seems to be working ok. I don't do much with YouTube, so I wouldn't worry too much that I'm going to be cranking out mountains of terribly-shot uninteresting videos to spam you with, I mostly just wanted to be able to test things.
Eventually I hope to make a page on which you can stick urls from a variety of different sites; like an Amazon username to get reviews by that user, an Amazon title to get reviews of the book, and a host of other things you may wish to keep track of that site creators don't care enough to enable for you. High on the list is the ability to input a MySpace username and get a full feed of their blog posts, a feed that returns full-res photos from any Flickr Feed, and other things that I can't currently think of.
If there are any things you wish were feed-enabled, let me know. I'll see what I can do. You know, when I get around to it, which -- based on past experience -- is not terribly likely anytime soon.
But at least I got started this time, right?
